Shein India Hits 2 Million Downloads In 6 Months

Shein India has surpassed two million downloads within six months of its relaunch, now offering over 20,000 live product options, according to Reliance Industries’ latest earnings report. Relaunched in February 2025 under a licensing agreement with Reliance Retail, the fast-fashion platform is operated by Nextgen Fast Fashion, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Retail. The platform is built and hosted in India, with complete ownership and operational control retained by Reliance.
Shein’s return marks a major comeback nearly five years after its ban in June 2020, when the Indian government cracked down on Chinese-origin apps. Its revival aligns with Reliance’s broader push into fashion and e-commerce, supported by a strong digital infrastructure and localized operations.
Alongside Shein’s growth, Reliance Retail’s quick-commerce business reported a significant surge in daily orders, which rose 68% quarter-on-quarter and 175% year-on-year. The Q-commerce platform now covers 4,290 PIN codes through more than 2,200 stores across 1,000 cities. Having entered the segment in October 2024, Reliance is positioning itself as a serious competitor to incumbents like Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart.
Reliance’s fashion e-commerce platform Ajio also recorded strong performance this quarter. Revenue from new customers rose to 18%, up 150 basis points year-on-year, while the average bill value increased by 17%. Ajio’s product catalogue expanded by 44% year-on-year, reaching over 2.6 million options, bolstered by the addition of several new brands.
Ajio Rush, the company’s four-hour delivery service launched earlier this year, is now operational in six cities and offers more than 130,000 product options. The service has shown improved unit economics, driven by higher average bill values and lower return rates.
Meanwhile, Ajio Luxe, Reliance’s luxury vertical featuring global and premium brands, grew its brand portfolio to 875, with its catalogue expanding 17% year-on-year. The continued expansion across Shein, Ajio, and Q-commerce reflects Reliance Retail’s aggressive digital retail strategy and growing dominance in India’s evolving fashion and lifestyle market.
