RMG Green Count In Bangladesh Rises To 258

Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector has further cemented its position as the world leader in green apparel manufacturing, with five more factories earning Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

This latest addition brings the total number of LEED-certified garment factories in the country to 258, including 109 platinum-rated and 133 gold-rated units. According to Mohiuddin Rubel, former director of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh now holds an unmatched record with 68 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified buildings.

Of the newly certified facilities, South End Sweater Company Ltd (Team Group), Purbani Fashion Ltd, KDS Fashion Ltd, and Raidha Collections Ltd all achieved platinum certification, while Texeurop BD Ltd earned a gold rating.

“The achievement comes at a time when the industry is navigating significant headwinds. Yet, in the face of such pressures, our entrepreneurs continue to invest in sustainable infrastructure and practices, demonstrating extraordinary resilience and long-term vision,” said Mohiuddin, who is also Managing Director of the Bangladesh Apparel Exchange.

He added that the continued growth of green-certified factories reflects the industry’s ability not just to endure challenging times, but to lead globally in building a more sustainable and responsible future for the apparel sector.
