Sircilla Textile Park Workers On Strike

Workers of the textile park on the outskirts of Baddenapalli in Thangallapalli mandal launched a strike on August 19th, demanding higher wages.

The agitation comes after repeated calls for an increase in wages for both government and private garment workers went unheeded by factory owners. At a meeting of powerloom workers, chaired by Union president Koochana Shankar, it was unanimously decided to halt work until the wage hike is implemented.

The striking workers later took out a rally and staged a dharna. CITU Powerloom Workers Union district president Kodam Ramana reiterated the demand, urging an increase in labour wages and an additional Rs 1,000 per day for workers engaged in producing government garments.
