Itema America Acquires Palmetto Loom Reed

Strategic move strengthens local production and service support for North American weaving industry
Itema America, the U.S. subsidiary of Italy-based Itema Group, has acquired Palmetto Loom Reed through an Asset Purchase Agreement. The Greenville, South Carolina-based company is one of the last remaining domestic manufacturers of weaving reeds in the United States.
Founded in 1913, Palmetto Loom Reed has supplied custom-made reeds to textile producers across North America and select international markets for more than a century. The company will continue operating with its existing workforce and maintain its current production capabilities.
The acquisition aligns with Itema America’s long-term strategy to expand its local manufacturing footprint and enhance service support for North American textile producers. By integrating Palmetto’s expertise in reed manufacturing, beam refurbishing and spare parts supply, Itema America strengthens its ability to deliver faster, more comprehensive customer support across the region.
“This deal represents a strategic step toward becoming a full-service domestic partner for the U.S. weaving industry,” said Scott Malcolm, Vice President of Itema America. “Palmetto Loom Reed is a successful company with a respected brand and our objective is to preserve its heritage while expanding the value we provide to customers.”
Matteo Mutti, Chief Sales and Service Officer of Itema Group, emphasized that the investment enhances the company’s service network in the Americas and improves responsiveness to customer requirements. Local reed manufacturing, he noted, offers clear advantages in terms of cost efficiency, shorter lead times and streamlined logistics, while reinforcing the company’s commitment to U.S. textile manufacturers.
The transaction was backed by Itema Group’s Board of Directors and CEO, Ugo Ghilardi, as part of the Group’s broader strategy to increase customer proximity and invest in regional industrial capabilities.
With this acquisition, Itema America confirms its confidence in U.S. manufacturing and strengthens its position as a trusted partner to the weaving industry across North America.
