Techtextil 2026 Spotlights Functional Apparel As A Strategic Growth Driver

As demand for high-performance textile solutions accelerates, Techtextil 2026 is placing functional apparel at the centre of industry innovation. The dedicated Performance Apparel Textiles area in Hall 9.0 will feature around 130 exhibitors from 13 countries, showcasing advanced materials for workwear, protective clothing, smart fashion, outdoor, and sports applications.
Leading global players including Concordia Textiles, Getzner, Kermel, Klopman International and YKK Europe will be among the key participants.
A major highlight is the live showcase, Performance Apparels on Stage, where next-generation wearables will be presented in action. The curated show translates material innovation into real-world applications, demonstrating how textiles perform across functions such as protection, thermoregulation, durability, and smart integration.
Functional textiles are increasingly shaping product strategy, enabling brands to create differentiated, high-value offerings. From cooling and protective capabilities to embedded measurement technologies, these innovations are redefining apparel across outdoor, industrial, and smart fashion segments. Techtextil positions itself as a global hub for sourcing, product development, and design, bringing together decision-makers from across the apparel value chain.
The showcased innovations have been selected by an expert jury including Hendrik Beier (Saxon Textile Research Institute), Judith Bosch (ETP), Nora Kühner (fashion.design.consulting), and Wolfgang Quednau (BTTA). Each exhibit highlights specific applications such as UV protection, flame resistance, circularity, thermoregulation, and integrated lighting.
Among the standout innovations:
- Circular material solutions such as loopamid, a GRS-certified polyamide developed by BASF and Fulgar
- Recyclable, high-visibility fabrics from ECOlastic Workwear
- Advanced protective gear including a lightweight Molotov Cocktail Protective Suit developed by RWTH Aachen University
- Chemical-free UV protection fabrics from Karl Mayer
- Smart products like a 3D-knitted illuminated backpack with integrated light fibres
- Cooling and thermoregulating solutions such as Freeze Tech Alpha and COOL.SKIN with Outlast
- High-performance aramid innovations like PBI GOLD SHIELD for industrial applications
Complementing the exhibition, Texprocess (Hall 8.0) will focus on textile manufacturing technologies, highlighting how innovations can be scaled efficiently through automation and AI-supported production.
Together, Techtextil and Texprocess create a comprehensive platform that bridges innovation, sourcing, and industrial application, underscoring the growing convergence of performance, sustainability, comfort and design in the future of apparel.
