India Proposes Anti-Dumping Duty On Chinese Textile Chemical

India has recommended the imposition of an anti-dumping duty on a key textile processing chemical imported from China, aiming to protect domestic manufacturers from unfairly low-priced imports.

The recommendation follows an investigation by trade authorities, which found that the chemical was being exported to India below its normal value, adversely impacting local producers. The product is widely used in dyeing and finishing processes across the textile value chain, making it a critical input for the industry.

Officials said the proposed duty is intended to restore fair competition and safeguard domestic manufacturing. The final decision, including the duty structure, will be taken by the government after reviewing the findings.

Industry players have long raised concerns over pricing pressures caused by cheaper imports, which have eroded margins and competitiveness. While the move is expected to support domestic suppliers and stabilize prices, downstream users may face some cost adjustments in the near term.

The development aligns with India’s broader strategy to address trade imbalances and strengthen key sectors such as chemicals and textiles amid rising import competition.
