Clariant Launches CATOFIN 1000 Catalyst To Boost PDH Efficiency

Clariant has introduced CATOFIN 1000, its next-generation propane dehydrogenation (PDH) catalyst, designed to enhance selectivity, productivity and operational reliability for propylene producers.

Building on the proven CATOFIN 310 Series, the new catalyst delivers improved performance with an extended lifetime and up to 20% reduction in tar precursors, significantly lowering fouling and maintenance requirements. These advancements enable PDH operators to achieve higher efficiency and improved plant economics.

The launch is complemented by Clariant’s digital service portal, CLARITY, which provides 24/7 access to real-time catalyst performance data, along with advanced monitoring and analytics tools to optimize plant efficiency, sustainability and safety.

“With CATOFIN 1000, we continue to push the boundaries of catalyst innovation,” said Jace Wang, Vice President and Head of Propylene at Clariant’s Business Unit Catalysts. “The reduction in tar precursors and fouling, combined with enhanced selectivity and productivity, marks a significant advancement in PDH technology.”

CATOFIN remains a leading catalyst technology for producing olefins such as propylene, isobutylene and butadiene. Developed in collaboration with Lummus Technology, the CATOFIN process integrates tailored catalysts with Heat Generating Material (HGM) and is widely adopted across global PDH plants.

Since 2017, CATOFIN technology has been selected for over 40 new projects worldwide, including a recent 1,200 KTA PDH project award in China, underscoring its growing role in the global propylene value chain.
