Inditex Commits €6.5 Million To Protect Amazon Rainforest
Inditex has committed approximately €6.5 million between 2026 and 2028 to Conservation International to support the protection and restoration of Amazon rainforest areas across Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Suriname.
The three-year partnership will support the establishment of new protected areas and strengthen the management of existing conservation areas, contributing to the protection of more than two million hectares of rainforest across the six countries.
The initiative will also support indigenous communities and local stakeholders in strengthening territorial governance and conservation efforts. Projects will include initiatives in indigenous territories and protected areas across the Amazon region, including Brazil’s Cué-Cué and Marabitanas indigenous lands, Ecuador’s Achuar Nation territory, and conservation areas in Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Suriname.
The Amazon, home to nearly 13% of the world’s known species, plays a critical role in regulating the global climate and supporting freshwater systems and livelihoods across South America. However, approximately 15% of its forest cover has already been lost to deforestation, with scientists warning of the risk of an irreversible tipping point if deforestation reaches 20–25% of the biome.
The partnership expands Inditex’s collaboration with Conservation International, following its participation in the Regenerative Fund for Nature, to which the company committed €15 million in 2023.
