Trützschler’s CL-X Pre-Cleaner Goes Beyond Spinning To Unlock Value In Cotton Ginning

Trützschler Spinning’s CL-X Pre-Cleaner has established itself as a proven solution in blowroom lines worldwide, with hundreds of installations demonstrating high cleaning efficiency, lower waste generation, improved productivity and significant energy savings. Now, the technology is finding success beyond spinning preparation, with new applications in cotton ginning creating additional opportunities for fibre recovery and value creation.

New Potential in Cotton Ginning
Cotton ginning is the first industrial processing stage for cotton, where seed cotton is dried, cleaned and separated into fibres, cotton seeds and waste. While the fibres are baled and supplied to spinning mills, the waste fraction is often sold separately, despite containing a certain amount of valuable cotton fibres.

In conventional ginning operations, waste streams can contain up to 0.8 per cent good cotton fibres. These fibres are typically transported and sold together with trash, reducing their market value and increasing logistics costs.

Installed directly downstream of the ginning machine, the CL-X enables more effective separation of usable fibres from waste. By recovering valuable fibres before shipment, the system increases fibre yield, reduces waste volume and enhances the economic return from the same quantity of raw cotton.

Brazilian Ginnery Reports Positive Results
A Brazilian cotton ginnery processing around 500,000 tonnes of cotton annually has successfully implemented the CL-X in its operations. During the cleaning process, approximately 65,000 tonnes are separated as cotton seeds and waste. Within this stream, around 4,000 tonnes consist of valuable fibres that would otherwise be lost.

By integrating the CL-X into the process, the customer was able to further separate the ginning waste into recoverable fibres and actual waste material. This increased the share of marketable fibres while reducing the volume of waste requiring transportation. As a result, the company achieved lower logistics costs and improved revenues through higher-value fibre recovery.

Satisfied with the performance, the customer has already placed follow-up orders for four additional CL-X machines, underlining the technology’s economic and operational benefits.

Proven Performance in Spinning Preparation
While the ginning application highlights the versatility of the CL-X, recent results from spinning mills continue to confirm its effectiveness in blowroom preparation.

In Vietnam, a customer compared the CL-X with its previous pre-cleaning solution under identical production conditions. The CL-X reduced total waste by approximately 0.5 to 0.8 percentage points while simultaneously improving yarn quality. The improvements enhanced rotor spinning efficiency, reduced material loss and delivered more consistent yarn production. The mill also reported around 40 per cent lower power consumption, resulting in substantial energy savings and lower operating costs.

Similarly, a Turkish spinning mill processing 100 per cent cotton at 1,100 kg per hour achieved significant gains after replacing a competitor’s machine with the CL-X. The mill recorded an 80 per cent reduction in waste, around 30 per cent lower energy consumption and improved yarn quality. In addition, a single CL-X was able to perform the work previously handled by two machines, improving both productivity and operational simplicity.

Encouraged by these results, the customer has decided to further upgrade its blowroom line with additional CL-X units.

Advanced Cleaning Technology
At the heart of the CL-X is Trützschler’s WASTECONTROL system, which continuously monitors trash content and raw material quality using real-time data. When excessive good fibres are detected in the waste stream, the system automatically recommends optimized settings to minimize fibre loss, ensuring consistently high cleaning performance and maximum fibre yield.

Creating Value Across the Cotton Chain
From spinning preparation to cotton ginning, the CL-X continues to demonstrate its ability to deliver measurable benefits in productivity, quality, sustainability and profitability. Its successful application in ginning highlights how advanced pre-cleaning technology can unlock additional value across the entire cotton processing chain.
