Nagpur Textile Market Takes Shape Under Rs 1 Lakh Crore Development Push

A major textile market under construction near Empress Mill, opposite Geeta Mandir in Nagpur, is among the commercial projects highlighted by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari as part of the city’s proposed Rs 1 lakh crore development programme.

Addressing the Viksit Vidarbha Summit, Gadkari said construction of the textile market had progressed up to two floors. The project forms part of a wider push to strengthen Nagpur’s markets, transport facilities and industrial infrastructure.

“The biggest textile market is being built at Empress Mill opposite Geeta Mandir. Work on it has been done up to two floors,” he said.

Connectivity improvements include widening the road from Mayo Hospital in Itwari to Shaheed Chowk into a four-lane stretch, with two markets planned along the route. Gadkari also outlined plans to redevelop Cotton Market and Santra Market, two of the city’s established commercial centres.

Describing Nagpur as India’s logistics capital, the minister said much of the planning and design work for the proposed development programme had been completed.

“Investment of Rs 1 lakh crore will come to Nagpur in the coming time. Most of the planning has been done, designs have been made,” he said.

Other projects outlined at the summit included the redevelopment of Kachipura in Ramdaspeth, an agro convention centre on Amravati Road and a private bus port at Ajni. The textile market adds a dedicated trading facility to this broader programme of commercial and infrastructure development.
