US Apparel Imports Plunge 23.17% In Six Months To June 2023
US garment imports plunged 23.17 percent in the six months to June 2023 to US $38.04 billion vis-a-vis $49.52 billion in the corresponding period of 2022, the Office of Textile and Apparels (OTEXA) said.
Imports of apparels from China totaled $7.27 billion, a steep drop of 29.16 percent. Clothing imports from Vietnam reached $6.73 billion, also down 26.73 percent, both on a year on year basis.
In the months beginning from January to June 2023, garment shipments from Bangladesh fell 23.55 percent from a year ago period to $3.82 billion, while that of India declined slower at 21.50 percent to $2.51 billion.
