Jan To Sept Bangla Garment Exports Down To US But Up To EU
In the nine months to September 2023, exports of apparels to the EU rose 6.40 percent from a year ago period to $17.52 billion, but clothing exports to the US fell to $6.30 billion, down 7.18 percent.
Clothing shipments to Canada increased 6.27 percent to $1.12 billion, while those to the UK climbed in double digits by 14.92 percent to $4.07 billion, both growing year on year.
However, garment exports to Germany, an EU country dipped 12.58 percent year over year to $4.68 billion in the period under review.
Clothing exports to Italy expanded 27.02 percent year on year to $1.60 billion, to Spain ascended 20.72 percent to $2.91 billion, while to France expanded 13.22 percent to $2.15 billion.
Bangladesh’s apparel shipments to non-traditional countries too mounted notably by 28.63 percent from a year ago period to $6.57 billion in the first nine months of current year.
Total Bangladeshi clothing exports between January and September augmented by 7.96 percent year on year to $35.61 billion.
