Mexico To Review Antidumping Duty On PFY Imports From India
The Mexican Ministry of Economy through a gazette informed that is reviewing the anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of polyester filament yarn (PFY) from India and China with tax number 5402.33.01.
The gazette said that the review is initiated by a change in the circumstances that led it to conclude that there will be no impact to the domestic PFY industry.
The ministry referred to the notice of closure in September 2023 of operations of the applicant, who had earlier in 2020, requested for applying anti-dumping duty on PFY imports from China and India.
Through the review, the ministry will evaluate the appropriateness of maintaining, modifying, eliminating or applying the definitive countervailing duty on imports of PFY from China and India.
It may recalled that on March 31, 2020, Mexico launched an anti-dumping investigation into polyester filament yarn originating from the two Asian countries.
On September 29, 2021, Mexico made a final affirmative anti-dumping ruling on imports of PFY and decided to impose an anti-dumping tax of US $0.532 per kg.
However, in view of the adverse impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the Mexican textile industry, the decision was taken to delay imposition of anti-dumping duties for one year.
After the extension expired, Mexico imposed the antidumping duty. But now has decided to review the anti-dumping duty in light of closure of the applicant’s factory.
