Better Cotton Renews Standard Recognition Agreement With ABRAPA

Better Cotton has extended its standard recognition agreement with ABRAPA (Brazilian Cotton Growers’ Association), ensuring continued alignment between the ABR (Responsible Brazilian Cotton) Programme and the Better Cotton Standards System (BCSS).
Effective retroactively from October 2024 to October 2025, the agreement will automatically renew for three years if all requirements are met.
Since 2014, ABR has been recognized as equivalent to BCSS, allowing Brazilian cotton farmers to market their cotton as Better Cotton, both domestically and internationally. In the 2023/24 season, 440 ABR-certified farms produced over three million metric tonnes of Better Cotton, accounting for 83% of Brazil’s total cotton production.
To maintain equivalence, strategic partners like ABRAPA must periodically reassess their standards to align with the BCSS. This ongoing process ensures that both programmes continue supporting cotton farmers in meeting sustainability and market demands.
