Chinese Agri Ministry Reduces Projection For Cotton Imports
Although there are expectations of a lower cotton crop in the 2023-24 cotton season, the Agriculture Ministry of China still reduced its projection for cotton imports on expectations of weaker demand from textile mills.
The Agriculture Ministry of China, which is the largest cotton producer in the world, in a statement has also urged its cotton farmers to add more fertiliser and better irrigate their cotton crops to reduce the impact of high temperatures.
Since the last one month, large regions of China have experienced record temperatures, particularly the Xinjiang province, which is the biggest producer of cotton in China.
The ministry statement informed that high temperatures had impacted cotton bud growth in some regions.
It advised farmers to water the cotton crop if there’s no rainfall for over eight days or the daily average temperature surpasses 32°C and also if the top of the plant shows signs of withering.
