Cotton Corporation of Tamil Nadu In Offing
The Tamil Nadu government has plans to establish the Cotton Corporation of Tamil Nadu in a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The government will also consider setting up of a separate commission for procuring cotton and selling directly to spinning mills.
This was informed by Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, R. Gandhi, who added that the PPP model would include representatives from private and cooperatives spinning mills and Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA).
R. Gandhi added that demand for raw cotton in Tamil Nadu was about 120 lakh bales, as against which only 15 lakh cotton bales was produced in the state, while the rest was imported or bought from other states.
