EU Clothing Imports Fall 9.6% In First Eight Months Of 2023

In the January to August 2023 period, European Union apparel imports dropped 9.6 percent to US $61.15 billion as compared to $67.66 billion in the first eight months of previous year.
EU’s clothing imports also fell to 2.56 billion kgs in the period under review, down 14.64 percent from 3 billion kgs in the months between January and August of 2022.
Garment imports from China fell 14.13 percent from a year ago period to $16.19 billion. In terms of volume they decreased to 695.88 million kgs, again a decline of 13.05 percent.
Clothing imports from Bangladesh in the review period touched $13.33 billion, slipping 13.71 percent year over year and also reduced 15.07 percent to 770.17 million kgs in volume terms.
EUROSTAT data revealed that apparel imports from Turkey amounted to $7.35 billion, descending by 10.89 percent and plummeted 23.23 percent from a year ago period to 244.83 million kgs.
EU’s imports from India, which is the fourth biggest clothing exporter to the EU followed the declining trend and reached $3.37 billion, falling 7.2 percent year on year.
Those from Vietnam also dropped 4.41 percent to $2.68 billion, while imports from Cambodia slipped 8.44 percent to $2.20 billion.
