Indian Textile Sector Will Regain Lost Glory: Piyush Goyal
The Indian textile sector will regain its lost glory and Tamil Nadu is going to be the vanguard of the revival.
This was informed by Minister for Textiles Piyush Goyal, while speaking at the office of the Southern India Mills’ Association in Coimbatore.
“Most developed countries are facing economic challenges. But I feel proud to say that the Indian textile sector is holding firm,” Goyal added.
“The British destroyed the Coimbatore textile industry to ensure growth of its own Manchester. Coimbatore, which is now referred to as Manchester of India, will give back with interest post-FTA with UK,” he stated.
“Tamil Nadu has one-third of India’s textile and garment business and around 40 percent share in yarn production. Quality standards of cotton should be maintained and farmers, ginners and spinners should come together to develop an ecosystem to further expand quality standards,” Goyal mentioned.
