Double Digit Growth for Bangladesh Garment Exports in March
Bangladeshi garment exports increased in double digits or by about 11 percent to reach US $4.34 billion in March 2024 compared to $3.89 billion a year ago, according to data of Export Promotion Bureau.
Of this, knitwear exports saw 16.47 percent growth, reaching $2.42 billion compared to $2.07 billion in March 2023, while woven apparel exports rose 6.26 percent to $1.93 billion, up from $1.81 billion.
In the first nine months of fiscal ending June 2024, Bangladeshi apparel exports rose 5.53 percent to reach US $37.20 billion as against $35.25 billion in the year ago period.
In the July-March period, knitwear exports grew 9.79 percent year on year and totaled $21.01 billion while woven garments touched $16.19 billion with a 0.47 percent year over year growth.
“The overall growth in clothing exports is not up to the mark nor is it bad,” Mohiuddin Rubel, Director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said.
“The positive side is that we are being able to gradually diversify our products and move towards higher value added items, which is reflected in the growth,” he noted.
