Shein Invests US$ 70M In Supplier Empowerment And Worker Welfare

Shein has committed US$ 70 million to its Supplier Community Empowerment Programmr (SCEP) through 2028, aimed at upgrading supplier facilities, enhancing manufacturing technologies, and improving worker welfare.

Renovated accommodation for workers
By the end of 2024, over US$ 33 million has been disbursed under the programme. As part of the initiative, Shein has renovated 203 facilities covering 500,000 sq.m., integrating Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and other automation solutions to boost efficiency. Additionally, US$ 7.5 million has been allocated for factory expansions in Southern China, along with US$ 280,000 for worker canteens and US$ 430,000 for improved accommodations.

Shein’s Centre of Innovation for Garment Manufacturing (CIGM) is driving advancements in lean production and automation, with an estimated US$ 40 million investment through 2028. By the end of 2024, US$ 23 million has already been spent on research, new production management systems, and 30 patents for innovative garment manufacturing techniques.
The company has also intensified its upskilling efforts, conducting 485 training sessions in 2024 for over 20,000 workers covering business operations, production technologies, and certification programmes.

Beyond factory improvements, Shein is supporting workers and their families through various welfare programmes. Its Spotlight Programme has provided financial aid to 644 families and 1,329 children for medical and educational support. Additionally, 350 children participated in Shein’s Summer Camp in 2024, while 25 operational childcare centres—part of a larger commitment to establish 60 centres by 2028—currently provide free after-school care to over 1,000 children of factory workers.
Shein’s SCEP initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to responsible sourcing, supply chain innovation and improving living and working conditions within its manufacturing ecosystem.
