Sustainable Sportswear: Puma’s RE:FIBRE Jerseys for 35 Clubs

Global sports company Puma has significantly advanced its textile-to-textile recycling initiative, RE:FIBRE, by creating millions of replica football jerseys with at least 75% recycled textile waste and other waste materials. Starting from the 2024/25 season, all Puma football replica jerseys, including those for 35 clubs and major tournaments like the Euro and Copa América, will be made using RE:FIBRE.

This expansion builds on the 46,000 RE:FIBRE jerseys produced in 2023, aiming to reduce textile waste and lessen reliance on plastic bottles for producing recycled polyester. Puma is enhancing its recycling capacity by exploring various polyester recycling methods, including thermo-mechanical and chemical techniques.

“RE:FIBRE gives football fans a tangible example of how Puma is working towards creating a Forever Better,” said Anne-Laure Descours, Chief Sourcing Officer at Puma. “Our wish is to have 100% of our polyester products created from textile waste. Rethinking how we produce and moving towards a more circular business model is important, and RE:FIBRE is central to that.”

To celebrate this milestone, Puma will host a weekend of activities at its New York flagship store, coinciding with the launch of the AC Milan and Manchester City home replica kits. Fans of Puma, AC Milan, and Manchester City are invited to join the celebration of Puma’s RE:FIBRE journey in-store.

On Saturday, July 20, 2024, One hundred limited edition badges upcycled from match-worn jerseys by Jack Grealish and Christian Pulisic will be available. These badges, designed by US upcycler and Puma Voice of a RE:Generation Andrew Burgess, commemorate the expansion of Puma RE:FIBRE.

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, Andrew Burgess will host three upcycling workshops, educating fashion-curious consumers on customizing and upcycling clothing to extend its lifespan. Participants will have the chance to transform a RE:FIBRE t-shirt into a sportstyle-inspired garment, blending sport and fashion.
