TASMA Urges CCI to Maintain Cotton Supplies

The Tamil Nadu Spinning Mills Association (TASMA) has appealed to the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) not to divert unsold cotton stocks to traders. In a letter reported by The Hindu, TASMA President AP Appukutti emphasized the resurgence of spinning mills due to increased garment orders and expressed confidence in procuring CCI’s cotton by August’s end, stressing the importance of stable supply chains.

Appukutti cautioned against selling to traders, fearing disruptions and cost escalation that could impact the spinning sector’s recovery momentum post-pandemic. This underscores the critical need for consistent and affordable cotton supply to sustain India’s textile industry growth.

The CCI’s decision holds significant implications for the sector’s near-term prospects, closely monitored by industry stakeholders.
