US Apparel Imports Shift: China Down, Asia Up

The US textile and apparel (T&A) import market saw a sharp reshuffle in July 2025, with Vietnam, Bangladesh, and India strengthening their positions even as China’s exports continued to fall steeply.

According to OTEXA data analysed by CITI, Vietnam’s shipments to the US rose 14.2% year-on-year, while Bangladesh grew 5.2% in July. India clocked 9.1% growth, though its expansion has been slower compared to its peers on a year-to-date basis. Imports from India in July were also about 12% higher than June.

China, the US’s largest supplier, extended its slump with imports plunging 34.6% YoY in July 2025, following steep declines in previous months.

For the January–July 2025 period, Vietnam’s exports to the US jumped 17.7% to US$ 10.41 billion, Bangladesh rose 21.1% to US$ 5.11 billion, while India posted 11.4% growth to US$ 6.22 billion. In contrast, China’s exports fell nearly 20% to US$ 11.21 billion.

The trends underline a shifting supply chain, with buyers increasingly diversifying sourcing away from China towards South and Southeast Asia.
