US Imports Of Cotton Garments Decline At Higher Rate In Q3
In the months between July and September 2023, there was a decline in US imports of garments. However the drop in imports of cotton was higher than in manmade fibre apparels.
In the third quarter of ongoing year, US clothing imports fell 16.46 percent as against same quarter of earlier year.
However, the decrease in cotton garment imports stood at 19.30 percent, wool apparels by 15.12 percent and manmade fibre clothing was 15.69 percent, all falling from a year ago period.
In the quarter under review, the dip in most types of cotton garment imports was significant, except for woven shirts and sweaters for men.
However, the import drops in various other types of apparels ranged from 20-46 percent year on year.
While, in manmade fibre clothing, except for a 2.36 percent fall in import of sweaters for men and boys, and a 9.11 percent decline in woven shirts for men and boys, the drop in other categories was around 10 percent and averaged between 10-30 percent.
In the quarter under review, the unit price of garment imports decreased again, with a year over year decrease of 6.9 percent.
Among them, cotton apparel unit price slipped 5.9 percent, chemical fibre apparel by 7.4 percent, but wool clothing unit price grew 6.6 percent, all from a year ago period.
