US Will Consider Duty Free Access for Bangladesh Garments
At the seventh US-Bangladesh Trade Investment Cooperation Forum Agreement (TICFA) meeting held in Dhaka, the US said it will consider including Bangladesh’s garment exports in a new GSP programme.
Apparel products included in the programme will have duty-free access to the US market as against 15 percent duty currently paid by Bangladeshi clothing exporters.
The US may also add a good number of various garment products to be included in the new GSP programme.
During the meeting, US officials said they would impose tariffs solely on the value added in Bangladesh for garment products made from US cotton.
Bangladesh can get the new GSP benefits in two ways. First by fulfilling the compliance criteria set for getting GSP benefits and secondly on decision taken by the US Senate.
