13-Day Nagaland Handloom Expo Begins in Kohima

The 13-day Nagaland state handloom expo, showcasing indigenous textiles and handicrafts, commenced at Kohima village ground on Thursday, March 27.

Organized by the Nagaland Directorate of Industries and Commerce and funded by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, under the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP), the event aims to promote artisans and weavers by providing them with direct market access.

The expo, named Hathkargha Mela, features products crafted from natural fibres such as stinging nettle, orange rhea, indigenous cotton and eri silk, alongside locally made cane and bamboo handicrafts. A total of 60 exhibitors, including 48 from the handloom sector and 12 from the handicraft sector, are participating, offering a platform for artisans to showcase their craftsmanship and expand their market reach.
