2023 Chinese Cotton Yarn Imports From India Jump Four Times

Chinese cotton yarn import volumes from India jumped four times to 248,000 tons in 2023 as against 56,400 tons in 2022 and accounted for 16 percent of total cotton yarn imports.

The total Chinese import volume of cotton yarn for 2023 totaled 1.55 million tons, growing by a massive 41.9 percent compared to 1.09 million tons in 2022.

The lowest import volume at 55,200 tons was reported in January 2023, while the highest at around 175,000 tons was recorded in September and monthly average import volume was 129,600 tons.

“Vietnam was largest source for cotton yarn imports at 667,300 tons and accounted for 43 percent of total imports, which is a significant drop from 56 percent recorded in 2022,” Chinese customs data said.

Pakistan was the second biggest source with a total import volume of 270,000 tons and accounting for 17 percent of overall cotton yarn imports, up from 13 percent in 2022.

Cotton yarn imports from Uzbekistan reached 130,000 tons in 2023 accounted for 8 percent of total cotton yarn imports.
