Lululemon To Close Washington Distribution Centre, Cut Over 100 Jobs
Lululemon, the Canadian athletic apparel brand, has announced plans to shut down its distribution centre in Sumner, Washington, resulting in the termination of more than 100 employees. The closure, confirmed on Monday, comes as part of the company’s strategic review of its distribution network to support future growth.
The 150,000-square-foot Sumner facility will cease operations by the end of 2024, with layoffs commencing on June 21. While some employees will be relocated to other facilities, such as the Ontario, California warehouse, over 100 positions will be eliminated. The company assures support for affected employees during this transition.
Lululemon, which currently operates eight distribution centres across the US and Canada, has seen significant expansion in its industrial real estate in recent years. Despite the closure, the company remains committed to growth, with plans to open new stores in the Americas and continue investing in innovation.
The closure of the Sumner facility reflects a broader trend in the athletic apparel industry, with competitors like Nike also announcing layoffs at their headquarters. Despite challenges in North American growth, Lululemon remains optimistic about its prospects and is focused on strengthening its market position.
