CITI Launches MDP On ESG For Advancing Sustainability In Textiles

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has inaugurated its three-day residential Management Development Program (MDP) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) at the Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA) campus. The programme aims to enhance sustainability practices within the textile industry through comprehensive training workshops.

Chandrima Chatterjee, Secretary General of CITI, outlined the organization’s commitment to improving due diligence and reporting standards. These workshops will be held regularly in collaboration with domain experts to provide valuable insights into various aspects of ESG.

In his welcome address, CITI Chairmanm Rakesh Mehra emphasized the challenges and opportunities associated with meeting the evolving sustainability demands of major markets, such as the European Union. He highlighted the importance of adapting to these emerging needs to remain competitive.

On the first day of the programme, faculty members Bharti Birla, Enterprise Development Specialist at ILO; Anju Singh, Professor at IIM Mumbai; and Dr. Manisha Karale, Programme Manager at RRMA, provided insights into emerging ESG compliance requirements and the imperative for the industry to adhere to these standards.

Participants from various textile and apparel units will be guided through legislative requirements, due diligence reporting frameworks and best practices. This will help them develop strategic visions and targets for building responsible and sustainable business models in the textile industry.
