Heberlein: 190 Years Of Innovation And Leadership In Textile Technology

With a remarkable legacy spanning 190 years, Heberlein has evolved from a family-run yarn dyeing business into a global leader in air interlacing and air texturing jets for synthetic continuous filament yarns. Founded in 1835 by Georg Philipp Heberlein, the company has consistently redefined textile technology through pioneering advancements and innovative processes.

Heberlein’s journey began with yarn dyeing, later expanding into textile finishing, printing, and synthetic fiber technologies. The company made a significant breakthrough in 1931 when it patented the texturization process, transforming man-made fibers by introducing false-twisting technology. This technique, which involved twisting and heating fibers at 500,000 twists per minute, created high-elasticity, shape-retaining yarns, marking a revolution in fabric production.

The launch of Helanca yarn, derived from Heberlein (“He”) and Lana (wool), solidified its presence in the market.

By the 1950s and 1960s, Heberlein further expanded its reach by developing specialized spindles for processing polyamide (nylon) filaments, significantly increasing industrial-scale production. At its peak, the company’s output equaled twice the distance from Earth to the Moon daily, with annual production exceeding 2.5 million kilos of Helanca yarn. To meet surging demand, Heberlein licensed over 100 partners worldwide, driving its commercial success.

As the European textile industry faced restructuring, Heberlein adapted by shifting focus from machine manufacturing to high-precision technology components, particularly in air-jet texturing, air interlacing jets, and machine spare parts. This strategic move reinforced Heberlein’s market dominance, ensuring continued relevance amid industry shifts.

The late 1990s saw further specialization, leading to the formation of Heberlein Fasertechnologie AG in 1997 and Heberlein Ceramics in 2005, enhancing the company’s expertise in high-performance yarn components. In 2023, a new investment foundation acquired the company, securing its long-term growth as Heberlein Technology AG.

Throughout its history, Heberlein has introduced a wide range of innovative yarn products, including Transparent (sheer fabrics), Hecolan (wool-like cotton properties), Hetex (lace and embroidery textiles), and Helanca. Its commitment to advanced yarn finishing solutions has helped customers achieve higher efficiency and profitability.

As it moves forward, Heberlein Technology AG remains at the forefront of textile engineering, continuing to shape the industry with cutting-edge filament treatment solutions that enhance both fabric quality and production efficiency.
