BWCMA Halts Textile Trade With Turkey, Azerbaijan

The Bangalore Wholesale Cloth Merchants Association (BWCMA) has announced an immediate suspension of all textile imports and exports to and from Turkey and Azerbaijan. The decision comes in response to what the association described as the two countries’ recent support for Pakistan following ‘Operation Sindoor’.

“This collective action reflects our commitment to ethical business practices, national sentiment, and the interests of our trade community,” said BWCMA President Prakash Pirgal. The resolution, passed unanimously, includes a halt on all ongoing and future textile trade with these nations, including indirect trade through intermediaries or third countries.

Pirgal added that BWCMA, which represents around 3,000 wholesale textile shops across Bengaluru, conducts trade worth crores of rupees with Turkey and Azerbaijan, though he did not share exact figures. He noted that despite India’s humanitarian assistance to Turkey during its earthquake crisis, the country chose to support Pakistan, which “sent terrorists to kill our people.”

The ban will remain in place until further notice, with any changes to be officially announced by the association’s governing body. The BWCMA has requested all trade partners, logistics providers, and stakeholders to cooperate in enforcing this resolution.
