India And Namibia Explore Textile Industry Collaboration

The High Commissioner of India to Namibia, His Excellency Rahul Shrivastava, was recently welcomed by the Mayor of Windhoek, Ndeshihafela Larandja, to discuss strengthening municipal-level cooperation between the two nations.

According to a statement from the City of Windhoek, the discussions focused on the potential establishment of large-scale textile production in the Namibian capital. Both parties explored avenues for collaboration, with textiles emerging as a key area of interest.

“Beyond textiles, they also explored potential cooperation in health and wellness, with the City aiming to position Windhoek as a leading hub in this sector. Other areas of potential collaboration include capacity building, education, and vocational training,” the City noted.

High Commissioner Shrivastava highlighted the strong bilateral ties between India and Namibia and underscored the opportunities for Windhoek to leverage India’s expertise in critical sectors.

Mayor Larandja expressed keen interest in developing the city’s textile industry and acknowledged India’s global leadership in the sector. She outlined plans to revitalise the existing Ramatex facilities and transform them into a major textile production hub with support from Indian technology and industry experience.

“This initiative could significantly enhance local capacity, create employment, and contribute to Windhoek and the broader Namibian economy,” she stated.
