MP CM Showcases State As Green Textile Hub To Inditex In Spain

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, during his visit to Spain, presented the state as a “green, cost-competitive and traceable” textile production hub in discussions with global fashion giant Inditex. On the second day of his tour, the Chief Minister held an investment dialogue with senior officials at Inditex’s headquarters in Galicia, highlighting the state’s alignment with sustainable manufacturing practices and its commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.
In the meeting, Yadav emphasized that Madhya Pradesh promotes water recycling, waste management and decent work standards, which are in line with Inditex’s responsible sourcing policy. He noted that the state’s ESG model is receiving positive global attention, with Inditex officials appreciating its potential to become a role model for stable development and good governance. The Chief Minister stated that Madhya Pradesh is fully committed to global partnerships in the textile sector and expressed readiness to support such collaborations at all levels.
Yadav informed Inditex that Madhya Pradesh is one of India’s top raw cotton producers, with around 18 lakh bales (3 lakh metric tonnes) produced annually. The state houses more than 15 textile clusters, with key centres in Indore, Burhanpur, Ujjain, Mandsaur, and Neemuch. He also highlighted the development of a textile mega park under the PM Mitra scheme in Dhar district, proposing it as an ideal site for sustainable, integrated manufacturing for global brands like Inditex.
He further pointed out that Madhya Pradesh leads in organic cotton production, particularly in the Nimar and Malwa regions, where GOTS-certified farmer groups operate actively. These groups, he said, could be ideal partners for Inditex’s sustainability and traceability goals. The Chief Minister proposed collaborative initiatives such as developing a “farmer-to-fabric” value chain, launching an organic cotton traceability platform, and implementing a vendor development programme with ESG-certified MSMEs.
Yadav also stated that the state exports over Rs 7,000 crore worth of textiles and garments annually, with the European Union being the major importer. He added that with partnerships from brands like Inditex, the export figure could rise to Rs 10,000 crore, boosting employment and women’s empowerment in the process.
The Chief Minister highlighted the newly introduced Madhya Pradesh Industrial and Export Promotion Policy 2025, which offers investors up to 90% subsidy on land, 40% capital assistance for machinery, 50% support for green technologies, and interest subsidies on loans. He invited Inditex to serve as a supply chain anchor in the PM Mitra Park and assured full government support for long-term collaboration.
Inditex, headquartered in Arteixo, Galicia, is one of the world’s largest fashion retailers and operates brands like Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, and Pull & Bear. In India, it works in partnership with the Tata Group to operate Zara and Massimo Dutti stores.
