Morocco’s Textile Sector Shifts Upmarket With Focus On Technology and Sustainability

Morocco’s textile and clothing sector is undergoing a major transformation driven by automation, digitalization and sustainability, said Anass El Ansari, President of the Moroccan Association of Textile and Clothing Industries (AMITH). Speaking at the opening of the 22nd “Maroc in Mode” (MIM) exhibition, he highlighted that the industry is steadily moving upmarket and strengthening its role in both regional and global value chains.

Held from November 5 to 7, MIM 2025 is organized by AMITH in partnership with CEMS under the theme “Morocco, the Smart Hub for Global Textile.” El Ansari noted that the ongoing shift aligns with the vision of King Mohammed VI to encourage productive investment, reinforce industrial sovereignty and create skilled employment opportunities.

He emphasized that the textile industry remains a key social and economic contributor, particularly for youth and women, while increasingly evolving into a technologically advanced sector. The sector’s collective objective, he said, is to position Morocco among the most competitive textile platforms in the region.

This year’s exhibition brings together more than 200 Moroccan and international exhibitors, representing around 100 global brands from 25 countries across Europe, Asia and Africa. The strong participation reflects growing international confidence in Morocco’s textile ecosystem, which is emerging as an innovation hub, a centre for nearshoring and a driver of sustainable production models.

El Ansari reaffirmed AMITH’s commitment to supporting business modernization, investment, skill development and promoting “Made in Morocco” textiles as a label of quality, proximity and sustainability.

Held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, MIM 2025 aims to showcase Morocco’s industrial strengths and expand global partnerships for the future of the textile industry.
