Egypt And Hong Kong Eye Textile & RMG Investment Partnerships

Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) held a roundtable to explore new investment partnerships in the textile and ready-made garment sector.

The meeting was chaired by GAFI CEO Mohamed El-Gousky and attended by HKTDC Garment Advisory Committee Chairwoman Katherine Fang Suk Kwan, representatives from Egypt’s Apparel Export Council, and leading manufacturers from both sides.

El-Gousky said Egypt’s textile and apparel industry is one of the country’s strongest, backed by a skilled workforce, established industrial base and competitive infrastructure, positioning Egypt as a hub for value-added manufacturing and integration into regional and global supply chains. He noted that Hong Kong offers access to financing and serves as a gateway for Chinese and Asian companies seeking global expansion, while Egypt provides entry to African markets and preferential trade access.

Katherine Fang described Egypt as a strategic partner for the future of China’s textile and garment industry, citing improvements in production capabilities, sustainability compliance and logistics. HKTDC Director of External Relations Iris Wong invited Egyptian firms to participate in Hong Kong’s textile exhibitions and sourcing events, highlighting Egypt’s role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Sherine Hosny, Executive Director of the Egyptian Export Council for Ready-Made Garments, said Egypt is a natural destination for Chinese investment due to labour availability, utilities and trade agreements, noting that Egyptian garment exports to the EU and US grew 97% and 46% respectively over the past five years.
