Aditya Birla Fashion Ranked India’s #1 And World’s #3 Most Sustainable Retail Company

By Textile Insights January 20, 2026 486 No comment

Aditya Birla Fashion has been ranked India’s most sustainable retailer and third most sustainable retail company globally in the latest S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) 2025, securing a score of 84 and placing in the 99th percentile of the global retail industry.

The CSA evaluates more than 7,000 companies worldwide on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) indicators and determines eligibility for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). The 2025 cycle introduced more rigorous standards with an emphasis on evidence-backed reporting, transparency and disclosure.

Despite higher benchmarking requirements, Aditya Birla Fashion improved performance across most ESG parameters. The company attributes this to its long-term sustainability strategy ‘ReEarth’, launched in 2012–13, which has progressed from operational efficiency (Sustainability 1.0) to product-led sustainability (2.0) and is now transitioning to Sustainability 3.0, focused on deep ESG integration and net-zero alignment.

“Sustainability is a core pillar of our business strategy,” said Ashish Dikshit, Managing Director, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. and Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Ltd. “This recognition by S&P Global validates our continuous efforts to create long-term value for our stakeholders while remaining committed to responsible growth.”

Dr. Naresh Tyagi, Chief Sustainability Officer, added, “Retaining the #1 spot in India and ranking 3rd globally is a proud moment for us and for Indian retailers on the global stage. This recognition is a testament to our structured sustainability roadmap and cross-functional collaboration.”

Key Milestones in Aditya Birla Fashion’s Sustainability Journey

  • 2012–13: Launch of ReEarth
  • 2018: First CSA score of 22
  • 2019: CSA score 63; ranked 8th globally in textiles & apparel
  • 2020: Named Asia’s Most Sustainable Company with score 70
  • 2024: Scored 83, ranked 4th globally
  • 2025: Scored 84, ranked #1 in India and #3 globally in retail

The result strengthens Aditya Birla Fashion’s position among leading global sustainable businesses and highlights growing ESG momentum within India’s retail and fashion sector.
