Report Flags Strong Recovery Of Textile Waste In India

Giriraj Singh has released the Report on Mapping of Textile Waste Value Chain in India, highlighting the country’s progress and potential in strengthening a circular textile economy. The minister noted that India’s textile sector has long been recognised for its sustainability, innovation and circular practices.
According to the report, India generates about 70.73 lakh tonnes of textile waste annually, with more than 95 per cent of pre-consumer waste already being recovered and reused across the value chain. The spinning sector, in particular, has demonstrated remarkable efficiency, achieving near 100 percent in-situ reintegration of waste into production processes, significantly reducing material loss.
The report also points out that with the increasing focus on sustainability, recycling and responsible production, India’s textile recycling market is projected to reach US$ 3.5 billion by 2030. This growth is expected to create nearly one lakh green jobs across the value chain while further strengthening the country’s position in sustainable textile manufacturing.
