Dow Appoints Karen Carter CEO, Fitterling Moves To Executive Chair

Dow Inc. has announced a leadership transition, with Jim Fitterling set to become Executive Chair and Karen S. Carter appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2026. Carter, currently Chief Operating Officer, will also join the Board, while Richard Davis continues as Independent Lead Director.

The move follows a multi-year succession plan aimed at ensuring continuity as Dow advances its materials science strategy. “On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Jim for his exceptional leadership,” said Davis, adding that Carter’s appointment reflects strong confidence in her ability to lead the company’s next phase of growth.

Fitterling, who has led Dow since 2018, has overseen its transformation into a more focused and resilient business following its separation from DowDuPont. “Serving as CEO of Dow has been the privilege of a lifetime,” he said, adding that he looks forward to supporting the company as Executive Chair, focusing on strategy, governance and external engagement.

With over three decades at Dow, Carter brings deep operational experience. As COO, she has led company-wide performance and previously headed the Packaging & Specialty Plastics business. “I am deeply honoured to assume the role of CEO and lead Dow into our next chapter,” Carter said. “Our focus remains on delivering innovative solutions for customers and long-term value for all stakeholders.”
