RSWM, NITRA Partner To Promote Commercialisation Of Milkweed Fibre Blended Yarn

RSWM Ltd has strengthened its collaboration with the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) to accelerate the adoption and commercialisation of milkweed (calotropis) fibre blended yarn, a sustainable textile innovation that transforms naturally growing weeds into value-added fibre.

The announcement was made during NITRA’s 52nd Foundation Day, where Om Samdani, Head – New Product Design, RSWM, represented the company in the presence of Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh and Sandeep Hora, Deputy Chairman, NITRA.

As part of the collaboration, RSWM will promote the use of milkweed fibre blended yarn across a wide range of textile applications, including innerwear, outerwear, knitting, woven fabrics and denim, supporting the commercial scale-up of the innovative fibre.

Developed under the leadership of Dr. M.S. Parmar, Director General, NITRA, milkweed fibre is produced from calotropis, a naturally occurring weed, and represents a “Weed to Wealth” initiative aimed at creating sustainable, high-value textile materials.

According to NITRA, the fibre has potential applications across apparel, technical textiles, medical textiles and vegan leather, offering an environmentally responsible alternative for next-generation textile products.
