AAFA Urges Swift Passage Of Anti-Counterfeiting Bill In House

The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has urged the U.S. House of Representatives to quickly pass H.R. 4930, a key anti-counterfeiting bill aimed at strengthening border enforcement of intellectual property rights.

The legislation would enhance the ability of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to share critical shipment-related information, including packaging and packing materials with brands and enforcement partners. It also expands who can receive such information, helping improve coordination and close enforcement gaps.

AAFA President and CEO Stephen Lamar called for swift bipartisan action, stressing the need to stop counterfeit goods before they reach consumers. Jennifer Hanks described the bill as a significant step toward stronger enforcement and acknowledged the role of lawmakers in advancing it.

H.R. 4930 is the House companion to a Senate bill introduced by Chuck Grassley and Maggie Hassan, and reflects growing industry efforts to curb the flow of counterfeit goods into the U.S.

Marking World IP Day, AAFA also led an industry letter highlighting the importance of IP protection and continued global cooperation.
