Kosakari Takes Chhattisgarh’s Kosa Silk To The Global Conscious Luxury Market

Chhattisgarh’s GI-tagged Kosa Silk is gaining recognition in the growing conscious luxury market, with premium handloom brand Kosakari working to expand the textile’s reach in domestic and international markets.

Known for its natural golden sheen, durability, lightweight feel and rich weaving heritage, Kosa Silk has historically remained relatively underrepresented despite its distinctive qualities.

Kosakari, supported by BALCO, aims to bridge this gap by bringing authentic Kosa Silk into contemporary fashion while supporting regional artisans and traditional weaving communities.

The brand’s collections draw inspiration from Chhattisgarh’s rich craft heritage, including Godna, the region’s traditional tattoo art, along with hand-painted detailing, Madhubani art, hand block printing and Kantha embroidery. These traditional techniques are reinterpreted through contemporary designs for modern consumers.

Kosakari exclusively offers GI-tagged and Silk Mark-certified Kosa Silk, ensuring authenticity and traceability. Its portfolio includes Pure Kosa Silk and Kosa Cotton Silk sarees.

“True luxury begins with provenance. Kosa Silk has always possessed everything that defines a timeless textile, its natural golden sheen, remarkable strength and centuries of craftsmanship. What it lacked was visibility,” said Shruthy D, Brand Manager, Kosakari.

She added that the brand aims to bring authentic Kosa Silk to contemporary consumers while preserving its heritage, supporting artisan livelihoods and nurturing the next generation of weavers.

Kosakari said its initiative goes beyond building a premium textile brand, focusing on preserving a centuries-old craft tradition while making it economically sustainable, culturally relevant and globally accessible.
