Monte Carlo Bets On Summerwear And Digital Growth Despite Seasonal Q1 Loss

Monte Carlo Fashions Ltd. is accelerating its transformation from a winterwear specialist into a year-round lifestyle brand, expanding its summerwear portfolio, retail footprint and digital capabilities even as the seasonally weak first quarter weighed on profitability.

The company reported Q1 FY27 revenue from operations of Rs 149 crore, up 7.6% year-on-year, driven by strong growth in cotton apparel, home textiles and footwear categories. However, higher operating expenses resulted in an EBITDA loss of Rs 12.9 crore, compared to a loss of Rs 5.9 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Net loss widened to Rs 23.4 crore from Rs 16.2 crore in Q1 FY26.

Despite the seasonal impact, operational indicators remained encouraging. Cotton volumes increased 23% YoY, home textile volumes surged 42%, while footwear sales jumped 38%, reflecting the company’s ongoing diversification strategy beyond its traditional winterwear business. The Home Textile segment and youth-focused Rock.it brand continued to deliver strong momentum during the quarter.

Monte Carlo is also strengthening its omnichannel presence. Online sales grew 15% YoY, supported by partnerships with quick-commerce platforms including Blinkit, Swiggy and Zepto, enabling deliveries within 30 minutes. The company has also partnered with Salesforce to enhance customer engagement and accelerate digital transformation initiatives.

On the retail front, the company is pursuing an aggressive expansion strategy, targeting the addition of 40–45 Exclusive Brand Outlets (EBOs) across India, with a particular focus on western and southern markets. During the quarter, it opened new stores under its Cloak & Decker brand, taking the total store count to 25 outlets.

Monte Carlo currently operates a nationwide network comprising 496 EBOs, 1,268 MBOs, 659 National Chain Stores and 593 Shop-in-Shop outlets, giving it one of the widest retail reaches in the Indian apparel sector.

Looking ahead, the company plans to further diversify its product portfolio across summerwear, athleisure, home textiles and premium apparel while expanding its customer base in western and southern India. Management believes these initiatives, coupled with stronger digital integration and deeper market penetration, will support long-term growth despite near-term seasonal challenges.
