India’s Textile And Apparel Exports Cross US$ 33.5 Billion In FY26

India’s exports of textiles, apparel and handicraft products crossed US$33.5 billion in 2025-26, up from around US$ 30.7 billion in 2023-24, registering a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.7%, according to data cited in Parliament.

Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita said India’s textile and apparel products reached more than 100 countries during 2025-26, reflecting the sector’s expanding global footprint.

The government is closely monitoring export performance and engaging with industry stakeholders to strengthen the competitiveness of India’s textile and apparel sector, the minister said.

As part of its export promotion strategy, the government is focusing on 40 priority countries to expand market access and diversify India’s export destinations. The strategy is aimed at reducing dependence on individual markets while creating opportunities for Indian textile and apparel exporters in new regions.

The government has also taken measures to improve the availability of raw materials for the domestic industry. Import duties on cotton were temporarily suspended from June 1 to October 31, 2026, with the move intended to support the availability of cotton for textile and apparel production.

Alongside export promotion measures, the government has approved a programme to improve productivity in the cotton sector for the 2026-27 to 2030-31 financial period.

According to Margherita, the programme is aimed at addressing key constraints in cotton production, improving productivity and efficiency, and tackling issues related to the quality of Indian cotton.

The measures come as India seeks to strengthen its position in global textile and apparel markets by combining export market diversification with improvements in domestic raw material availability, cotton productivity and product quality.
