Canadian Apparel Imports Down 7.8% between Jan & Aug
In the first eight months of the current year, Canadian garment imports amounted to US $8.11 billion, down 7.8 percent from a year ago period
Imports from China were $2.42 billion, a year over year decline of 11.6 percent, while accounting for 29.9 percent of overall apparel imports.
Between January and August this year, imports from Vietnam, the second biggest source stood at $1.07 billion, dropping by 5 percent year on year and accounted for 13.2 percent of overall imports.
Imports from Bangladesh in the reporting period touched $1.06 billion, a fall of 9.1 percent over same months of 2022 and accounted for 13 percent of overall apparel imports.
From January to August 2022, Canadian clothing retail sales were Canadian $22.4 billion, a rise of 8.4 percent, while retail sales in August were Canadian $2.79 billion, up 5.7 percent, both growing year on year.
