Ajay Sardana Named Chairman Of ICC Petrochemical Committee

The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has appointed Ajay Sardana as the Chairman of its National Expert Committee on Petrochemical Initiatives, bringing over three decades of industry experience to the role.
Sardana currently serves as President & Head – Strategy and Business Development, Polyester Business at Reliance Industries Limited. He also sits on the Boards of BVM Overseas Ltd and Sintex Industries Limited. Known for his strong focus on sustainability and innovation, he has worked extensively across global markets, including leadership roles in Turkey and Indonesia, giving him deep international exposure to the evolving petrochemical landscape.
In his new position, Sardana will steer the committee’s efforts to strengthen industry collaboration and advance initiatives centered on sustainability, innovation, and sectoral growth. His appointment comes at a time of rapid expansion for India’s petrochemical industry, which is projected to grow at 11.5% annually between 2021 and 2027, reaching a value of US$ 100 billion by 2027. Long-term projections suggest the sector could scale up to US$ 350–370 billion by 2040.
India’s rising refining capacity, expanding from 215 MMTPA in 2013–14 to 251.2 MMTPA today, has made the country the fourth-largest refining hub globally, behind only the United States, China, and Russia. This strong capacity base is expected to further accelerate the growth of petrochemicals in the coming years.
The ICC expressed confidence that Sardana’s leadership will help shape forward-looking policies, strengthen business promotion efforts, and enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of India’s petrochemical sector.
Sardana holds a Master’s degree in Textiles from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, an MBA from Singapore, and has completed a one-year Leadership Program in Sustainability from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in collaboration with Yale University, USA.
