Apparel Export Slump Drags Down Overall T&A Exports In May

India’s textile exports recorded modest growth in May 2026, but a steep decline in apparel exports dragged down the overall performance of the country’s textile and apparel sector, according to the latest export analysis by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).
During May 2026, textile exports increased by 2.47 percent compared to the same month last year. However, apparel exports declined sharply by 14.17 percent, resulting in a combined textile and apparel export contraction of 5.40 percent year-on-year.
The trend continued during the first two months of FY 2026-27. Between April and May 2026, textile exports registered a growth of 3.03 percent over the corresponding period of the previous year, while apparel exports fell by 12.98 percent.
As a result, cumulative textile and apparel exports during April-May 2026 declined by 4.44 percent compared to the same period last year.
