Asia’s Biggest Garment Wholesale Market To Get Makeover

The Delhi government is all set to beautify the Gandhinagar Market, which is Asia’s largest wholesale garment market and convert it into a ‘Grand Garment Hub’.

The redevelopment work will be done at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore and will be carried out in two phases.

According to the Delhi government, due to limited space, the market’s infrastructure has been significantly affected, impacting business of hundreds of wholesalers.

With this in mind, the government plans to give the market a new identity by setting up infrastructure that optimises available space along with setting up a new warehousing facility.

The Industry Department of the state government has been directed to hire consultants and develop the design within the next six months.

The design and project management of the market will be taken on by Professor Manoj Mathur and his team from the School of Planning and Architecture.
