Australia Can Export 50,000 Tons Tariff Free Cotton To India

50,000 tons of Australian cotton can now be exported to India at zero percent import duty as against the 11 percent import duty imposed by the Indian government.

This move is expected to encourage Australian apparel brands who wish to manufacture garments in India, using Australian cotton.

Last week, a delegation made up of Cotton Australia and Austrade officials met Indian government and textile industry representatives to explore collaborations.

According to Cotton Australia, the goal for the interaction was to identify areas of mutual interest and cooperation between the two countries.

“We are working with Indian government officials and actively trying to increase the 50,000 tons duty free quota and thereby grant Australian cotton more access,” Cotton Australia said.
