Bangladesh Launches National Single Window To Streamline Trade

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) of Bangladesh has launched the National Single Window (NSW) to simplify import-export processes, bringing seven key customs agencies under one digital platform. The system, unveiled at a city event, aims to eliminate paperwork, reduce costs, and speed up goods clearance, benefiting traders and businesses.

With agencies like the Department of Environment (DoE), Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA), and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) already integrated, traders can now apply online for certifications, licenses and permits, cutting out the need for in-person visits. The remaining 12 agencies will join by February 28, 2025, completing the system’s rollout.

The NSW automates procedures for international trade, allowing seamless submission of data and faster clearance of goods. Powered by the Bangladesh Single Window (BSW) software and Advance Risk Management System (ARMS), the platform ensures efficient tracking, risk management and real-time decision-making for trade-related activities.

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, speaking at the event, hailed the project as a step toward “seamless trade” that will reduce human intervention, prevent tax evasion, and enhance transparency. NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan emphasized that the NSW will not only ease trade but also boost revenue and improve governance.

The system, supported by the World Bank, is expected to revolutionize Bangladesh’s trade landscape, making it faster, more transparent and globally competitive.
