Bangladesh Manages To Double US Garment Exports In Five Years

Bangladesh has managed to double its garment exports to the US, which is its largest market over the last five years and in 2022 touched US $9.75 billion.

“In the same five-year period, US imports of apparels rose 28 percent to reach almost $100 billion,” figures from the Office of Textile and Apparels (OTEXA) revealed

Experts attribute the surge to diversion of orders from China and also as the country exported more high-value clothing.

“During the same period, China’s garment exports to the US declined by around 20 percent, although the country remains the top supplier,” TBS reported.

The OTEXA data also informed that although Bangladesh is the second biggest garment exporter to the US, its share in overall US clothing imports is just 10 percent.

In 2022, Indian clothing exports surged 54 percent year on year, while that of Bangladesh experienced 36.38 percent, while Vietnamese clothing exports rose 27 percent and Chinese exports grew by just 10.83 percent.
